I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed having them work here. I know it’s a weird thing to say, but they are all perfectly delightful, so professional, very nice gentlemen, obviously very talented and knowledgeable.

I am writing to tell you how pleased I am with Essex Restoration and your team. Never in all my years of various home remodeling projects, have I experienced the quality of work ethic which your group displayed. From their timeliness to their accommodating my needs, their quality of workmanship, and right down to the end of the day clean up. Everything done by Essex was top notch and I am pleasantly surprised by how the team came together to get the job done. I would like to extend a special thank you to Eric Ashwell and Chris Haynes. It is because of their attention to detail and quality of work that I am thankful I hired Essex.

I will not hesitate to use them for home improvements in the future.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will I be kept informed as the project progresses?

Yes, absolutely! Our system includes many forms of communication and keep the entire team up to speed on all aspects of the project as it moves through the phases from foundation to finish. You are the one who will live in the home, and we feel you should be informed and in control.  Our weekly meeting policy provides our clients with real-time information about the project as it moves forward through construction. Each week we review together the construction progress as well as the weekly financial report, so everyone has a finger on the pulse of the project and you the owner remain in control.

How can I be assured I won’t overpay

The budget forecasting spreadsheets we utilize during the planning phase of your project flow through the entire life of the project right up to the end of construction. We have a solid team of subcontractors from whom we receive competitive bids to ensure we’re maximizing value by getting top-quality work at the best possible cost. Our financial reporting sets us apart because our bookkeeping system produces financial data reports for our clients in real-time. This system, that we developed over the years, empowers our clients to remain in a position of control throughout the planning and construction phases.

I’ve heard many stories of construction projects experiencing painful schedule delays.

We create a realistic schedule for each project with achievable deadlines for each phase.

I want to build something new, but I don’t want to fall prey to the shoddy new construction I’ve heard so many stories about…

One thing everyone on our team shares is a commitment to best practices in our industry. We’ve learned in formal training programs, we’ve learned from mentors on the job, we’ve measured our successes and studied the durability of our work over the last 30 years in an ongoing effort to improve.

Who will be working in my home?

Essex employees are the primary staff who will be working on the jobsite from the beginning of the project right up to the final pre-move-in cleaning. Our staff is comprised of carpenters, project managers, and assistants who oversee the project and perform the bulk of the work. Unlike many firms who subcontract all aspects of a construction project, our employees are responsible for the project from start to finish and are onsite every day.

I heard that a client makes up to 500 decisions when planning a home, that seems overwhelming!

It’s true, there are many decisions to be made, some small and some big ones! And it does not have to be overwhelming. Essex can provide a systematic process for tackling the selections and decisions process in a logical sequence, with cost information available when decisions are to be made, and a well organized method for tracking and recording all of the information as it accumulates prior to construction.

What if unexpected surprises arise during construction?

A well-executed design/budgeting/planning process can avoid many common problems during construction. If something unexpected should arise during construction, our Production Department has well-organized processes for communication and team meetings that allow for efficient and effective collaboration between designers, builders, and clients to bring resolution and keep projects on track and on schedule.

I’ve heard horror stories about construction projects that go over budget, take too long, and create an unpleasant experience for the client/homeowner… can these pitfalls be avoided?

Yes! There are many firms in our industry who are learning from the “School of Hard Knocks” as they say. And they are bringing their unsuspecting clients along with them for that bumpy ride. And the tuition is being paid by their clients! These are the factors that are creating the all too common horror-stories. At Essex we take care during the planning process to guide our clients through a well thought out planning process to ensure a smooth running project.

How do we create the architectural plans?

If you don’t come to us with an architect already on the team, that’s perfectly okay. We know a number of smart, creative, and talented architects with whom we regularly collaborate and we can make an introduction. If we’re involved during the design process we can provide feasibility consulting as well as budget forecasting during the design process to ensure you end up with the right project at the right budget.

Where do I start?

A well-executed construction project starts with clear plans, a realistic budget, and a well defined schedule. These key elements when thoughtfully crafted result in a smooth project that adds value, avoids stress, and results in a beautiful, functional, sustainable home.

How do I engage with Essex and prepare my ideas for construction?

It’s an easy 3-step process:

  1. Make an appointment to talk with us about your objectives.
  2. We will use our tried and true system to create a custom plan for successful execution of your project.
  3. We will collaborate with you and the design team as we move the project forward through a logical and efficient process that results in a well crafted set of documents and a smooth running construction experience.
